About the Course

Early in studying biochemistry you will become well versed in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis which are involved in the production of ATP and NADPH. This involves lots of memory work as there are lots of steps to remember as well as remembering the enzymes involved.

Later in study you will be taught about liver functional tests and the associated enzymes and how to interpret liver function test results. From this you would be able to diagnose different types of hepatitis, gallstones (prehepatic and posthepatic) and alcoholic + fatty liver disease.

Studying this subject at the beginning relies on a lot of memory work however, as you progress through the course the work becomes more applied and relies on logic which I believe most people enjoy. Some of the concepts are difficult to grasp at work however with images it can help to differentiate between different disease states. For example, Gilbert's disease and haemolytic jaundice.

There are some great YouTube videos on glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, I will link some on this page.
